A Brouhaha at BJ’s Brew-house

NachoBears went to BJ’s Brew-house in Chandler AZ this past Sunday to watch the Bears lose to the Giants 21-16. It was a disappointing game and our playoff dreams are more than likely kaput. Go Cardinals!

BJ’s Brew-house is definitely a place to keep in mind for next year as their nachos are great! BJ’s offers the hearty chips with plenty of toppings. JalapeƱos come on the side but there is no extra charge for them. Score!

A meat sauce created from their Piranha beer is spread throughout the chips without making them soggy. It is very tasty. NB is giving these nachos a 4. We would give them a 5 but they are a little pricey and the bar ambiance is not a true Bear Bar. It is geared towards shoppers. (BJ’s is located at the mall.) The TV’s are nice but viewing from a table is at an awkward angle. You can sit at the bar and watch, but the TV’s are really close and talking to 3 or more people is not easy. The wait staff in nice and the beer is heady.

So go to BJ’s after your Christmas shopping, get the nachos and relax with some Piranha beer. You’ll like it, even if the Bears aren’t on the big screen!

Do Up Doc and Eddy’s

Tucked behind a Bank of America at the northeast corner of Rural and Baseline roads hides Doc and Eddys. Phoenix New Times gave it the "Best Neighborhood Bar" award in 2006, so Nachobears stepped up to the plate to check it out! Turns out the Bears put out a spectacular effort (Esp Hester the Molester) complete with a great finish! The Bears came to life just in the nick of time to win in OT against the Denver Broncos. 37-34. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to watch this game. Doc and Eddy’s offers multiple areas to watch the games. Pool tables, Golden Tee, and even this slot-car game in the corner that looked pretty cool (but we forgot to check out on the way out of the bar). The place is deceptively large. The TV’s aren’t state-of-the-art but they do the job. This past Sunday we were able to simultaneously watch the Bears and the Cardinals in OT. After all, we do live in AZ and therefore feel some loyalty to the Cardinals. Too bad the Cards don’t have the Bear’s intestinal fortitude.

Speaking of intestinal fortitude, on to the Nachos! The nachos came out to the table piled extremely high with ground beef. They looked like they were going to be a feat to eat without making a complete mess. We dove in finger-first anyway. Mess be damned and alas the nachos were well worth the effort! They came complete with all the fixins’. Even had chopped jalapenos tossed in. Some of us felt the chips were a little on the too salty side, but most felt the nachos were superb. The price was good too. Not the cheapest and not the most expensive either.

3.5 stars for Doc and Eddy’s!!!

When you go get the nachos and say “hi” to Aaron. Go Bears!
