Rock Bottom Bottoms Out

The Bears had a bye last week and so did we. Fear not! The NachoBears were back on the hunt for the valley’s best nachos this weekend. We ventured out to the microbrew called Rock Bottom in Ahwatukee to watch the Bears beat the Oakland Raiders in a fantastic 4th quarter rally. With Griese injured late in the 2nd quarter, the Bears relied on Grossman to clinch the win with a 59-yard touchdown pass to Bernard Berrain. Go Bears!! 1 down, 7 more to go! Our playoff dreams are still alive with yesterdays win. 17-6.

Rock Bottom is not exactly the optimal place to watch a football game. Now, don’t get me wrong , they have very nice TV’s and a decent atmosphere but there is something missing. It’s not very lively and we got the feeling we were not supposed to stay long. The waiter gave us our check after the 1st pitcher of beer and we weren’t even at halftime yet. It was an odd feeling.

Speaking of the waiter…Where did he go? Have you seen him? Has he stopped by? Questions that were repeated often at Rock Bottom. Now, I do have to give the waiter some credit for helping us situate the biggest little Bears fan at the beginning. His car seat wouldn’t fit in the bar chair and the waiter was nice enough to find a chair that worked. It took the best part of the 1st quarter but it all worked out in the end.

On to the NACHOS. What can I say, they started out great, piled high with all the toppings, guacamole and sour cream were extra but the jalapenos were included. Too bad it was all showboating. Our chips were smashed into little pieces which makes eating nachos very difficult. I think the “cook” gave us whatever remnants were at the bottom of the bag. We ended up having to order extra chips. Good thing they didn’t charge us for the extra chips as the nachos were a whopping $13.46. Our most expensive nachos to date. We ended up eating most of them with a fork. A feat that seems to ring true at a lot of these bars.

WHERE OH WHERE ARE THE GOOD NACHOS?!?!?! Someone please write in and tell us where the good ones are! We’re getting desperate!

Overall rating is a 2.0. Brew is ok, not as good as the Peaks, but OK. I think there are better places to watch the Bears and eat nachos.

DID YOU KNOW? A Nacho Bears Extra:
The Bye Week (Not “Buy Week”)

NFL teams play 16 of 17 weeks in an NFL season schedule. The week that they don't play is called their bye week. Also, two division winners from each of the two conferences with the best record are rewarded with a bye in the playoffs.
